Journal for GLOBAL GENERATION
It is important that you make the right impression on the
interviewer the very first time you walk into that interview room,
as this is when the interviewer begins to create their opinion about
you. This article will discuss ways to make good impressions through
your general appearance, how you should dress, body language and how
you should behave.
Your appearance and mannerisms should
complement your answers to the interviewer’s questions, and should
send the message across to the interviewer that you are the perfect
candidate for the job, as you are smart, confident, motivated,
experienced and have everything it takes to do the job.
It is obvious that when you attend an interview you must appear
clean, tidy/groomed and smart. The interviewer will take notice of
even the smallest thing like clean fingernails and well polished
shoes, so do remember to take these things into account. Try and
make an extra effort wherever possible, as interviewers are always
impressed by someone who has shown they’ve made an effort.
You must dress to impress, and look smart, and even try looking more
smarter and even more presentable than the current employees. It is
important for you to look like you are part of the team, as the
workplace will entail teamwork, and looking the part is a big step
for you to be able to comfortably engage and fit into your
surroundings. Here are some helpful tips about how to dress in
interviews:
Make sure your clothes are clean, tidy and nicely pressed.
Try not to go too extreme. If you’re not sure, then just choose a neutral design and color.
Try not to wear too many accessories, as you may be bound to play around with them if you are very nervous.
When selecting a color that you will wear, keep in mind that darker colors look more professional than lighter ones.
Don’t wear anything too short or too tight, as this will
invalidate your professionalism.
You have to display the right attitude along with showing the
correct type of posture and body language. The right posture and
body language will reflect a sense of confidence and motivation on
your part to the interviewer. Here are some things to keep in mind
about this aspect:
Just relax and feel totally open and comfortable in expressing all your views - highlighting on this point, make sure that when you are standing and sitting, your head and back are straight up, and shoulders are kept back.
Don’t forget to breathe!
Be alert and elegant in your mannerisms and gestures.
Always make eye contact with the interviewer and join everyone’s gazes around you in the workplace.
Have a smile and keep a pleasant expression on your face
